Cursillo Movement in San Diego
1962-2012
De Colores:
In Cursillo, we greet each other with the saying, “De Colores”. The phrase reminds us of the “colors of life” and all the blessings of our Lord. Our recent celebration with the Bishop for 50 years of Cursillo in San Diego certainly reflected those colors in sacrament, song and fellowship.
I counted six language groups present. I saw people in their 90’s and a few babies in their mothers’ arms. The church was full and the music spanned decades of joyful sounds. We prayed for those not with us and, as Mass ended, we looped around the church in a large figure eight to sing our closing songs. It was a large, inclusive Mass worthy of 50 years of discipleship. The Grand Ultreya that followed fed all Cursillistas present with extravagant dishes and more Cursillo music. The celebration went on into the afternoon.
Now, we start the next 50 years. We start by evangelizing our families, work and parishes. We continue the tried and true method of making a friend, being a friend, and then bringing that friend to Christ. We will restart the Parish Representative missions that were so successful 30-40 years ago. A Cursillo couple or persons makes a 2 year commitment to foster Cursillo in their parish. Please contact me to be the Cursillo representative in your parish.
